Teresa  Dawn  Untiedt

An introspective Colorado artist who paints the American West from her heart through her own unique perspectives. She works from a fascination with backlit leaves, the colors and textures of geological formations, patterns of color, light and shadow, the mystery of changing seasons, and portents of history --what is inside and what is to come.

She invites you to come take a peek at the world through her eyes.

From the Artist

I drew all the time as a child, mostly horses, and I made a lot of muddy messes of color with a set of oil paints I got in about fifth grade. In college a new drawing class was offered, in which we learned to see shapes and shadows that rendered realistic likenesses of what we drew, mostly each other. My likenesses were good enough that several students asked for my drawings to give their mothers. Shortly after that class I married and got caught up in the busy years of raising a family, and I let my skills and love of art fade away.

Many years passed. In early 2017 I lamented to my cousin, western artist Mike Untiedt, that I seemed to have lost my earlier drawing ability. My mother had passed away shortly before and I had frustrated myself trying to do sketches of her in her beautifully wrinkled older years. Mike said, "Oh, you don't lose it, you're just out of practice. Tonight is studio night. Why don't you stay and come to that?"

Mike holds twice-a-month meetings of local artists in his studio in Denver to which attendees bring work for critique.  (Go to michaelomeuntiedt.com and look for the link to Studio Night for more information.) The group comments on what they like and what they would do differently while trying to identify the individual strengths that contribute to each artist's unique voice, as well as offering insights into the business of art.

I stayed and am I glad I did! By the time I got home I was so excited that I couldn't sleep. I began painting shortly after that night and have attended studio nights ever since. The supportive atmosphere has given me an invaluable mentorship by a dedicated group of working artists and when I follow the suggestions offered therein, my work only gets better. My deepest thanks to you all!

The works presented in the Artwork link start at the bottom of the screen with the earliest work and proceed to the most recent at the top. Thus the thread of narrative thus travels from bottom to top. Watch for updates when new work is posted.
